About the event
August 7th is National Purple Heart Day.
In 2025, the day was marked by a Presidential Proclamation to honor the millions of American service members who were wounded or killed in combat defending the nation.
This year, 2026, The State of Texas will honor this day, and sign a proclamation of it's own. The State Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott has invited Purple Heart recipients to the Capitol to witness his proclamation.
