The Mid-cities Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter #1513, has elected Jon Lunkwicz, a combat-wounded Vietnam Army veteran, as the new Mid-Cities chapter commander for 2020-2021.

Born in Hanau, Germany to parents of Lithuania and French Canadian background, Jon was raised in New York and Texas. His father was a World War II 2nd Armor Division Solider who participated in D-Day and went all the way to Berlin. His dad later became an Army Officer and went to Hanau Germany in the ‘50s. Jon was raised with the military traditions, and the core values of duty, honor, country. His personal motto is "excellence and achievement".

Jon served in the US Army from 1971 through 1975, he joined in New York on a summer vacation, in the same recruiting station his father had joined in, to honor his dad’s military service. He enlisted and his MOS was 11B, Infantryman.

Jon served in combat during Vietnam in 1971 in Chu Lai, and also was stationed in Korea in 1972. His service awards and medals include the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Korean Service Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry with Palm, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

Jon organized and founded Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter #1513 in DFW / Mid-cities area in August 2013 and have recruited 36 members. He was ranked #3 nationally in 2014 for recruitment for this combat veteran organization. He has been served as the Military Order of the Purple Heart Department of Texas Chief of Staff since 2014, 2015, 2016.  He served as Department of Texas Jr Vice Commander in 2016, Senior Vice Commander in 2017 and served as Commander of Department of Texas for two years from 2018-2020.  Jon currently serves as Department Adjutant (2020).

Jon has a solid background in business and finance, with over 33 years in sales, marketing and accounting in the insurance industry. He owned a business and managed employees on a daily basis. He also worked for Farmers Ins. Group, CUNA Mutual Ins.Group, and after that spent 5 yrs. with Toyota Financial Services.

He married the love of his life, Lisa Holmes (a MOPH Associate Member) in St. Louis during the VFW National convention in July 2014. He is now a step-dad to Sara, Lisa's Daughter, who lives in Germany.
