POW - Prisoner of War

Our organization is for military veterans who were classified within the following Department of Defense Casualty Keys WIA = Wounded in Action, POW = Prisoner of War, KIA = Killed in Action, MIA = Missing in Action.

Prisoners of War (POWs) are combatants captured and held by the enemy during periods of open conflict.  "Prisoner of War" term has been changed by the Department of Defense to denote captured American personnel with "Missing-Captured, but remains widely used in the Pentagon which awards the Prisoner of War Medal.
